How Can You Tell If a Compression Garment Fits Correctly?

Explains that a garment should fit smoothly without rolling, folding or creating excessive local pressure.

Visual Check

After fitting, check that the fabric lies flat against the body. Rolling, wrinkling or folding can concentrate pressure and leave marks.

Assess the areas where the upper and lower edges sit. If they dig in noticeably or leave deep marks, review the size and style.

Movement Check

Assess fit during movement as well as standing. Ask the patient to sit, stand and walk a few steps to check whether the garment stays in place.

A garment that slips down, rides up or twists during movement can make everyday wear difficult.
