How Does Swelling Affect the Size of My Compression Garment?

Explains how postoperative swelling can change over time and why a garment may fit differently in later weeks.

Swelling and Measurements

Swelling in the early postoperative period can make your circumference measurements larger than usual. Garment selection takes this into account.

As recovery progresses, swelling reduces and measurements change. This is an expected part of recovery.

How Swelling Affects Fit

As swelling subsides, a garment that fitted closely in the first few days may become looser. This does not necessarily mean the garment has deteriorated; your body is changing.

You may need to be measured again. Tell your healthcare team when you notice a change.
