Why Can a Compression Garment Be Harder to Put On in the First Few Days?

Postoperative swelling, tenderness and restricted movement can make dressing more difficult in the first few days.

Your Body Is Adjusting After Surgery

Swelling, tenderness and restricted movement can occur immediately after surgery, so putting on a compression garment may take longer than usual.

This does not necessarily mean the size is wrong. Take your time and distribute the fabric evenly over the body.

Do Not Force the Garment On

Pulling hard can damage the garment and cause discomfort in sensitive areas. Assistance from your healthcare team or a helper may be useful, especially at first use.

Significant pain or unusual pressure calls for a fit check.
