Why Can Postoperative Swelling Change During the Day?

Postoperative swelling can vary during recovery. These changes may also affect how your compression garment feels throughout the day.

Swelling Can Vary

Postoperative swelling may change during recovery. You may notice differences at different times of day or at different stages of healing.

As a result, the same compression garment may sometimes feel tighter and sometimes more comfortable.

What Does a Change in Fit Mean?

A slight change in how a garment feels during the day does not necessarily mean it is the wrong size. However, if it starts slipping, leaves obvious gaps or causes persistent discomfort, its fit may need reassessment.

Do Not Ignore Unusual Swelling

Seek medical assessment for a sudden or marked increase in swelling, particularly one-sided swelling or swelling accompanied by severe pain, redness, shortness of breath or chest pain.
