Why Does Putting On Your Compression Garment Correctly Matter?

Correct positioning matters as much as the right size. Distributing the fabric evenly and preventing folds helps make the garment more comfortable.

Before Putting the Garment On

Because compression garments fit closely, putting them on may require more care than everyday clothing.

Sitting down and putting the garment on slowly may be more comfortable than pulling it on hurriedly, particularly during early recovery.

Position the Garment Gradually

For garments with legs, position the leg sections first, then gradually work the garment upwards. Ease the fabric evenly from several points rather than pulling only from the top.

This helps prevent overstretching in some areas and bunching in others.

Check Before Fastening

Make sure the garment is positioned correctly before closing zips, hooks or other fastenings.

Final Check

Once dressed, stand for a few minutes and take a short walk. Check for unusual pressure, folds or discomfort in any area.
