How Should You Use Zips and Hook-and-Eye Fastenings on Compression Garments?

Zips and hook-and-eye closures make compression garments easier to put on and remove. Using them correctly without forcing them matters for both comfort and garment lifespan.

Do Not Force the Fastenings

Trying to close zips or hooks before positioning the garment fully can put excessive strain on the fastenings.

Position the fabric correctly on your body first, then close the fastenings.

Fasten the Hooks in Sequence

On garments with hook-and-eye closures, fastening the hooks gradually can make dressing easier than putting all the strain on one point.

Make sure the fabric is distributed evenly rather than pulling the two sides together with excessive force.

Protect the Skin Beneath the Zip

Take care not to catch skin or lining in the zip. If there is a protective fabric panel or pad beneath it, check that it is correctly positioned.

What if the Zip Will Not Close?

If closing the zip requires excessive force, recheck the garment's position and size. Fastenings that are constantly under strain may indicate an unsuitable size.
